Even before the BBC bought out BritBox International to make it the new streaming home of the British Broadcast Corporation, the service had gone all in on BAFTA, signing on to become the exclusive streaming home of both the annual Film and Television Awards, along with picking up the Oliviers for theatre. In the case of the Film Awards, the BAFTAs had David Tennant as host to help draw Americans in; the Oliviers brought Hannah Waddingham and her triple threat song and dance numbers.

However, for TV, the BAFTAS are sticking with their usual duo hosts of comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, two names lesser known in the states, meaning the show will have to run more on the shows and the A-list stars up for statues. Luckily, once audiences tune in, they’ll find Beckett and Ranganathan quite a delightful pair. Like Ant and Dec, they are genuinely friends, not just co-workers. The two have been co-hosting the TV BAFTAs for a few years now, so they’re old hands at keeping the live show running smoothly.

The duo also hosts the red carpet that occurs beforehand. The show, which broadcasts from the Southbank Centre’s Festival Hall in London, curates fan questions for the preshow event. The two have been online ahead of the show, asking fans to submit questions for the nominees, with the threat (or the promise) that some of them might actually get used live in front of those tuning in. Check out the video below to get a feel for how they work together. (And maybe submit a question yourself!)

The 2024 BAFTA TV Awards Performances

The BAFTAs love to highlight the evening with funky performances. The BAFTA Film Awards, for example, pulled Sophie Ellis-Bextor out of her one-hit wonder obscurity to perform "Murder on the Dancefloor" after Saltburn turned it into a Top Ten hit twenty years after it was initially released. For the BAFTA Television Awards, the show has booked a special dance theatre performance of Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, a prequel ballet developed by Rambert stage's artistic director Benoit Swan Pouffer alongside Peaky Blinders' series creator Steven Knight

The ballet was filmed for television and broadcast during the eligibility period, so it is not a stunt but a piece that technically falls under the awards' jurisdiction. With the Peaky Blinders movie heading into filming in the summer of 2024, this is a perfect way to remind audiences how much they loved the original show and hype up everyone for its eventual return on Netflix.
