The Trailer for 'Ted Lasso' Season 2 is Two Minutes of Pure Joy

Some of you may have slept on the first season of Ted Lasso, AppleTV+'s delightful comedy about an American football coach who heads to the U.K. to manage the struggling English football (i.e. "soccer") team AFC Richmond. Sure, the premise sounds ridiculous on its face and more than a bit silly, and sometimes the show is both of those things, but here's the truth: Ted Lasso is probably the best show that's aired anywhere in the past year, a  wholesome meditation on kindness, friendship, and the power of optimism to change lives.

The series follows Jason Sudeikis as the eponymous coach, an eternal optimist who's ready to lead his underdog team of perennial losers to victory, despite the fact that he knows next to nothing about the rules of soccer. But what Ted does understand is people and the power of giving those people a reason to believe in themselves and one another.

As Season 2 begins, not even demotion from the Premier League to a different (worse) division can dampen Ted's sunny outlook on both life and sports, but as the team continues to struggle and its future looks increasingly uncertain, he pulls out all the stops to help motivate his players. This includes his deploying his "mean" persona "Led Tasso," who is - as you might have already guessed, not in any way mean at all. Ted is simply a sweetheart, and the sort of person we both all want to be and know.

As you can see from the clip above, all the series' main cast is returning, including Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster, and Nick MohammedSarah Niles joins the cast this season as a sports psychologist who has been brought in to work with the team.

The first two episodes of Ted Lasso Season 2 will premiere on Friday, July 23, with individual episodes to follow weekly. Happily, the series has already been renewed for a third season, so we have plenty of positive life lessons with the Greyhounds ahead of us.

Are you looking forward to more Ted Lasso? Let's discuss in the comments.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
