After months of rumors and speculation, Apple TV+'s worst-kept secret is officially official: Ted Lasso, the Emmy-winning comedy that racked up awards season hardware and became the streamer's most popular series (at least until the second season of Severance came along), will return for Season 4.

The news broke on "New Heights," a podcast hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce, which featured Lasso star Jason Sudeikis as a guest. He revealed that the show was returning and that Ted would be returning to coach the AFC Richmond women's team which was hinted at during the Season 3 finale.

The official Apple TV+ press release followed though it didn't provide many additional details about what to expect. No additional cast members were confirmed, though it was reported last summer that the streamer had picked up the options for original cast members Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Lesley Higgins). Per Deadline, Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) is also in talks to return, and Nick Mohammed (Nate Shelley) has been teasing the series' return on social media for months, so it seems a safe bet to say he's involved in some way.

Ted Lasso Season 3 with its eponymous coach heading home to his family in Kansas, leaving Goldstein's Roy Kent in charge of the Richmond team. How he will wind up back in England is anyone's guess, but is almost certainly going to be the focus of the new season's early episodes.

“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap, in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be," Sudeikis said in a statement.

Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief,” Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, said in a statement. “Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”

Season 4 will add 30 Rock's Jack Burditt as an executive producer alongside Sudeikis, Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, Bill Wrubel, and Leanne Bowen, as well as Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer of Doozer Productions. Goldstein and Bowen are also writers on the new season, with Sarah Walker, Phoebe Walsh, and Julia Lindon.

Ted Lasso Season 3 was...let's just call it divisive among many fans and critics. With super-sized episodes, a glut of new characters, a baffling series of plot twists, and an ending that felt both underbaked and strangely incomplete, it wasn't what anyone would likely call satisfying. A Season 4 gives Sudeikis and friends a chance to course-correct some of those mistakes, but it seems fair to ask how many people are going to be excited to watch them try.

There's no word on when we can expect to see Ted Lasso return to our screens, but the smart money is on sometime in 2026.
