All hail the new Queen.

Netflix has dropped a trailer for the third season of its immensely popular period drama The Crown, and it offers our first glimpse at footage of star Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II.

The teaser features Colman surveying two images of the queen, one which features a young Claire Foy and another that portrays Colman’s Elizabeth as a more “settled sovereign”.

“A great many changes. Nothing one can do about it. One just has to get on with it,” the Queen dryly intones in the teaser’s final moments, offering a bit of perfectly timed commentary about the state of the show in general.

Season 3 marks an important turning point for Netflix’s critically acclaimed period drama, as it swaps out its entire cast and ages everyone up as Elizabeth’s story enters the 1970s and 80s.

Colman, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Favourite last year, is taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth, with Tobias Menzes playing Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter portraying Princess Margaret and Ben Daniels stepping into the role of her husband, Lord Snowden.

New faces this season include Charles Dance as Lord Mountbatten, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne and Jason Watkins as Prime Minister Harold Wilson.

The official synopsis promises that Season 3 will offer more changes than simply the ones taking place among the series cast.

The third season of The Crown sees a new guard sweep into Downing Street, as Queen Elizabeth and her family struggle to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing Britain. From cold-war paranoia, through to the jet-set and the space age - the exuberance of the 1960s and the long hangover of the 1970s - Elizabeth and the Royals must adapt to a new, more liberated, but also more turbulent world.

Season 3 officially drops on Netflix on Sunday, November 17.
