The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Join Twitter. Sort of.
The Royal Family has already proven to be quite organized about their official social media activity – there’s an official @BritishMonarchy account, as well as @ClarenceHouse, which publicizes the activities of the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall and had, up until this point also been covering the young royals as well. The Queen herself even managed to write a tweet on the occasion of the opening of a new gallery dedicated to the Information Age at London’s Science Museum last year.
The new @KensingtonRoyal accounts will be dedicated to updating the world on the engagements, charitable endeavors and other news about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Harry.
The new account was officially announced this morning, via multiple channels:

The new Twitter account’s been up less than day so far and has already tweeted 21 times with several photos and videos, so it seems that they at least plan to be prolific in their activity. Give the people what they want, right?

Sadly, Mashable is reporting that there are no plans for Prince William or the other young royals to tweet or update these accounts personally. This isn’t terribly surprising, I suppose, given that their grandmother doesn’t seem to be planning on becoming a prolific Twitter user herself at any point in future despite her groundbreaking first tweet, and it’s unclear whether Prince Charles has ever even acknowledged the platform at all.
That said, the addition of the Kensington Palace account to the Royal Family’s Twitter arsenal, as Clarence House was probably getting a bit overrun at this point keeping up with everyone.

The KensingtonRoyal brand also extends to Instagram, as well as Storify, thought the Storify account as yet to be updated so it’s a bit unclear what that will be used for in future. Official trip or conference coverage, perhaps?
