Will There Be a 'Van der Valk' Season 5? Fans May Have To Wait A While
As our finale recap for Season 4 noted, Van der Valk left its ending wide open at the end of Season 4, dropping large circular hints about Piet and Katlie's history and promising more cases in store for Henrick, at least for the time being. Thus far, it has been safe to assume new seasons of Van der Valk will arrive as sure as the leaves turn and the nights get longer. But will that continue to be the case? The truth is, it might be a while before we can know for sure.
During Van der Valk's first three seasons, news about filming was always available via the series' various social media outlets, including first images from filming, announcements when production wrapped, and the first images emerging in early summer as the series aired on ITV ahead of its fall debut on Masterpiece. However, Season 4 spent the entire production cycle radio silent. It was unclear whether marketing for the series had been dropped or if there was some sort of hiccup in production, as the production company behind Van der Valk, All3Media International, was acquired in 2023. However, the deal closed in May 2024, and there was still no update. ITV didn't make a peep about the series when summer came around.
Instead, Masterpiece launched the first images and Season 4 trailer, leaving U.K. fans wondering when Season 4 would be available to them. As of the Season 4 finale airing in the U.S., ITV has still not announced when the new episodes will debut in the U.K. That may be part of why no renewal announcement has been made as yet.
