'Unforgotten' Renewed for Season 7 Ahead of PBS' Season 6 Debut

Unforgotten has slowly become one of Masterpiece's most enduring mystery shows. It is currently one of the very few to reach more than five seasons without being based on a popular book series. The ITV show has weathered a full-on lead casting change from Nicola Walker to Sinead Keenan without missing (much of) a step, and writer Chris Lang continues to command the type of respect that attracts the biggest names in show business to take guest star roles. Season 6, which is expected to arrive on most PBS stations before the end of 2025, is currently wrapping up on ITV, with the finale just around the corner in the U.K., and the actors are already looking ahead to Season 7, which both Keenan and co-lead Sanjeev Bhaskar, who plays her second-in-command Sunny Khan, confirming the next season is a go.

We will not discuss Season 6 here, as we don't wish to spoil the episodes before they arrive. However, the latest season, which, as per usual, begins with the discovery of human remains, this time on Whitney Marsh, has been critically heralded by the British entertainment press, promising the rougher edges of Season 5 have been sanded away. The show is also continuing to grow in audience viewership on the far side of the pond, with a whopping 7.4 million viewers tuning in to the show's premiere, which apparently includes a significant twist that was also a series first.

With the U.K. viewership at an all-time high and Keenan and Bhaskar's chemistry firing on all cylinders, Season 7 was probably assured, even if ITV had held the news until the show arrived in America. However, the U.K. network decided there was no need to wait.
