Code of Silence's first season doesn't debut on BritBox until close to the end of July 2025, but ITV is already moving forward with Season 2. The series, which was a critical darling in the U.K. when it premiered in May 2025, was one of the biggest shows for ITV so far in 2025, with over 20 million views recorded across the season. Subscribers in the U.K. are also still catching up on the whole series now that all six episodes are available, with ITV reporting that the series is currently averaging 6.4 million viewers per episode.
The series was also praised for reframing the deaf community and stereotypes about those with hearing loss or who are profoundly deaf. Critics praised its portrayal of BSL within a gripping narrative and its treatment of lip-reading as a valuable skill set. The show has also been a breakout moment for lead actor Rose Ayling-Ellis (Ludwig), who is now a household name across the U.K.
“I’m so proud that Code of Silence has been recommissioned," Ayling-Ellis said in a statement. "The response to the first series has been incredible, and it means so much to be part of a drama that not only keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, but also puts a Deaf character at the heart of the story. I’m really excited to see where Alison’s journey goes next and to be working again with the wonderful cast, crew, and creative team behind the show."
Here's the Season 1 synopsis.
Code of Silence is told through the point of view of Alison Brooks, a Deaf canteen worker. Alison is struggling to make ends meet, juggling two jobs, one in a police canteen and another in a local bar, while also doing her best to support her Deaf mum, Julie. It’s not long before Alison is pulled into a high-stakes police investigation when DS Ashleigh Francis asks that she use her lip-reading skills to monitor a dangerous criminal gang.
As her interpretation of their covert conversations becomes central to the investigation, Alison is plunged into an exhilarating new world. Her role quickly becomes key to unlocking the police case, but her feelings become complicated when she finds herself drawn to one of the suspects, Liam Barlow. Despite knowing the risks and the growing threat to her personal life, Alison can’t let go.
At this time, only Ayling-Ellis is confirmed to return in Season 2. However, considering that most of the Season 1 cast survives the show's first outing, fans can probably expect most of the central cast to reprise their roles. That includes Charlotte Ritchie (Grantchester), Andrew Buchan (Black Doves), Kieron Moore (Masters of the Air), Nathan Armarkwei Laryea (The Witcher), Joe Absolom (Doc Martin), Beth Goddard (The Serpent Queen), Andrew Scarborough (Downton Abbey), Fifi Garfield (Deaf Funny), and presenter Rolf Choutan.
The series was created by Catherine Moulton (Baptiste), who is expected to return as lead writer in Season 2. No directors have been confirmed as yet. Ayling-Ellis and Moulton will also continue to executive produce alongside Bryony Arnold & Damien Timmer for Mammoth Screen and Robert Schildhouse & Stephen Nye for BritBox.
Code of Silence will premiere with two episodes on BritBox on Thursday, July 24, 2025, followed by one a week on Thursdays through the end of August.
