With the state of the James Bond franchise in flux — Daniel Craig has moved on from 007 to Benoit Blanc, and although rumors continue to swirl about who might next take up the infamous moniker, there's been nothing close to an official announcement — the entertainment industry has been working overtime to try and fill the spy thriller gap. The latest installment in the Mission Impossible franchise arrives later this summer, and shows like Citadel, Rabbit Hole, and A Spy Among Friends are premiering on what feels like a monthly basis.

Apple TV+ hasn't exactly been immune to this trend either, featuring films like Ghosted and shows like Slow Horses on its platforms. And now it's finally set a release date for the highly anticipated thriller Argylle, a globe-trotting adventure starring The Witcher's Henry Cavill as a super-spy sent on a variety of high-stakes missions around the globe.

Like several of its other recent film releases, Argylle will have a brief theatrical run prior to its global release on the streaming platform. The film will be released in theaters worldwide, in partnership with Universal Pictures, on February 2, 2024, before streaming globally on Apple TV+. (There's no firm date yet for when we can expect to see the film premiere on the streaming service, but the window for these things has traditionally been fairly brief.)

The initial description of the film is pretty basic.

The world's greatest spy, 'Argylle,' gets caught up in a globe-trotting adventure.

Alongside Cavill, the film’s star-studded cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World Dominion), Sam Rockwell (See How They Run), Bryan Cranston (Your Honor), Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek), Samuel L. Jackson (Secret InvasionJohn Cena (Peacemaker), Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) and musician Dua Lipa

Directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Argylle is based on Elly Conway’s debut novel of the same name, with a script written by Jason Fuchs. According to VarietyVaughn’s U.K.-based studio Marv is reportedly already planning at least three films in the franchise.

The film is produced by Cloudy Productions and Vaughn’s regular collaborators, Adam Bohling and David Reid, as well as Fuchs. Zygi Kamasa, Carlos Peres, Claudia Vaughn, and Adam Fishbach serve as executive producers.

Argylle is set to be released in theaters on February 2, 2024, with a streaming release on Apple TV+ to follow.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
