It was just under a month ago, in early January 2024, when Whitstable Pearl suddenly appeared on the production list for prepping to film Season 3. It was a surprising development; Acorn TV had not indicated there would be another after Season 2 ran in November 2022. However, the streaming service had brought back Harry Wild for two more seasons, with a third season already in the can before it was announced as renewed, so perhaps it wasn’t as shocking as all that.

However, Acorn TV took until February 2024 to officially acknowledge that Whitstable Pearl was back on the schedule and filming preparing to get underway. Oddly, Acorn TV didn’t send out a press release to tell all outlets that cover the series the news; it merely told Deadline that Season 3 was a go and expected the information to disseminate from there. Hopefully, it plans to market the new season a little better than that.

However, Julie Wassamer, the author behind the Whitstable Pearl mystery novels, seems to think fans will find the new season no matter what. “I’m thrilled that Whitstable Pearl will be returning for a third season, as are those all around the world who have taken this series to their hearts – together with its magical setting,” she said.

Here's the Season 3 synopsis:

In Season 3 of the show from Crime producer Buccaneer, Godliman returns to build her private detective business, finding herself involved in more diverse investigations, including reopening an infamous local cold case and the death of a famous food critic. She’s aided and abetted by her outspoken, feisty mum, Dolly, and still going strong with her boyfriend, Tom, but it’s navigating her complex relationship with DCI Mike McGuire that still proves Pearl’s most challenging case.

Kerry Godliman returns in the lead role as Pearl Nolan, with Howard Charles as DCI Mike McGuire. Other returning cast members include Frances Barber as Dolly, Robert Webb as Tom Grant, Isobelle Molloy as Ruby Williams, and Sophia del Pizzo as DS Nikki Martel.

Mike Walden (Marcella) will return as the series lead writer for Season 3 with Sarah Louise Hawkins, Joe Ainsworth, Ciara Conway, and Kit Lambert. The producer of the series is Debbie Pisani. Wassamer executive produces alongside Walden, and Øystein Karlsen, Tony Wood and Richard Tulk-Hart for Buccaneer, and Catherine Mackin and Bea Tammer for Acorn Media Enterprises.

Whitstable Pearl Season 3 will begin filming in March 2024 and is expected to stream on Acorn TV for the 2024-2025 television season.
