'Sherlock & Daughter' Greenlit at CW for 2025

The final day at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour 2024 was focused on The CW, which has rebranded to simply CW, in some weird attempt to ape ABC, NBC, and CBS, but you know, with one less letter, so far more awkward. While many of the questions in the first session concerned the late lamented series that once populated the channel and were all canceled in a mass bloodbath as part of the rebrand, the network did bring some news for Anglophiles, including a first look at the Sophie Turner series Joan and a new series announcement, Sherlock & Daughter.
The full trailer for Joan won't be made public for a while, but the Sherlock & Daughter details were given a full rundown by President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz. Unlike Joan, which is a co-production with ITV, or the CW's deal with Channel 4 to air Everyone Else Burns, which never actually made it to linear in the fall of 2023, despite the network's scheduling and rescheduling it, Sherlock & Daughter is technically an American production. The CW's production arm is spearheading the series, but it will be filmed in the U.K. working with British producer StoryFirst.
The cast will also be split between Americans and Brits. The titular Sherlock Holmes will be played by David Thewlis, who most Americans know best as Professor Lupin from the Harry Potter film series. However, his daughter, who has never met her father, is the American-born Amelia, played by American actor Blu Hunt (The New Mutants).

The mystery thriller series Sherlock & Daughter puts Sherlock Holmes out of his comfort zone, mysteriously unable to investigate a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest friends. Enter: young American Amelia. After her mother’s mysterious murder, she learns her missing father may be the legendary detective. Despite wildly different backgrounds and attitudes, the pair must work together to solve a global conspiracy, crack her mother’s murder, and find out for sure if she really is Sherlock’s daughter.
Thewlis and Hunt are joined by Dougray Scott (Irving Welsh's Crime), who stars as Holmes’ famous nemesis, Professor Moriarty. The rest of the cast will be announced in due course when filming commences.
Brendan Foley is the series creator, writer, and executive producer of Sherlock & Daughter, with James Duff as showrunner and executive producer. Micah War Dog Wright and Shelly Goldstein are writers on the series. Karine Martin, Chris Philip, Peter Gerwe, Dominic Barlow, and Ivan Dunleavy also serve as executive producers, along with Escapade Media, Starlings Television Distribution, Albion Television, and StoryFirst.
Sherlock & Daughter will debut on CW in 2025.
