Netflix Sets 'Adolescence' Release Date, Confirms 2025 Series

Netflix likes to present itself as an underdog in the entertainment world, an upstart rebel here to improve television. In reality, Netflix is the 650-pound gorilla of the streaming world, dwarfing the competition and all but guaranteeing the death of basic cable now that it’s taking away live sports, the last reason people still haven’t cut their cords. Case in point: With January nearly over, Netflix is flooding the entertainment ecosystem with a day-long series of announcements hyping some of the biggest titles heading to the streaming service in 2025, including Adolescence, the Stephen Graham series from the makers of Boiling Point.

The Graham series was one of over half a dozen titles announced in March 2024, taking the real-time one-take format and applying it to the story of Jamie Miller, who is arrested for the murder of a teenage girl who goes to his school. Newcomer Owen Cooper is the 13-year-old Jamie, and Graham plays Jamie’s father and ‘appropriate adult,’ Eddie Miller. Ashley Walters (Missing You) stars as Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe, and Erin Doherty (A Thousand Blows) is Briony Ariston, the clinical psychologist assigned to Jamie’s case. The series will premiere with all four episodes on March 13, 2025.

Adolescence is the only series with an official release date; most of the other British (and British-ish) series and movies on the list merely got “coming 2025” or, like the upcoming film The Woman in Cabin 10, starring Black Doves’ Keira Knightley, “coming in the fall of 2025.” At least Netflix decided to debut a first-look photo.
