Welsh Thriller 'The Pact' Will Arrive on Sundance Now in December

One of the nice perks of there being so many streaming services available these days is that more Anglophile-friendly content than ever is arriving on our screens, often on what seems like a daily basis. (I'm not complaining, mind.) And while Sundance Now may be one of the more niche streaming options available these days, the outlet has brought us some intriguing contemporary drama titles over the past couple of years, including Des, The Commons, and The Drowning. And this December, they'll launch the six-part Welsh crime thriller The Pact, a series that feels primed to become everyone's next murder mystery obsession. 

The series, which The Guardian referred to as "Wales' Big Little Lies" during its U.K. run, follows the story of four women who must keep a dark secret. Nancy (Julie Hesmondhalgh), Anna (Laura Fraser), Louie (Eiry Thomas), and Cat (Heledd Gwynn) are a group of friends who work together in a Welsh brewery, each suffering in different ways under the dominion of crude, bullying boss Jack Evans (played by the woefully underrated Aneurin Bernard). The son of the brewery's retired owner, he's a drug user and a sexual harasser among other things, and he takes every opportunity to abuse both his power and the women who work for him. 

But when Jack turns up dead after a raucous evening meant to humiliate him, a chain of events is triggered that draws these women into a pact that will change their lives. Anna's police officer husband Max (Jason Hughes) will be called in to investigate, unaware that his wife and her besties are at the heart of a likely criminal conspiracy. And their co-worker Tish (Abbie Hern) may well be starting to suspect them all. 

What really happened to Jack? Who is responsible? And will they get away with it? We'll have to wait and see.

The six-part series is set to premiere exclusively on Sundance Now on Thursday, December 2, with new episodes to follow weekly through January 6.
