Star-studded newsroom drama Press is coming to PBS’ Masterpiece this October, and the official U.S. trailer for the series is here.

The six-episode series features an all-star cast led by Masterpiece fan favorite David Suchet of Poirot fame, with Charlotte Riley, Ben Chaplin, Priyanga Burford, Shane Zaza, Ellie Kendrick and more.

Despite the timely nature of the topic, Press will apparently not tackle any of the hot button issues affecting the media industry today. So don’t expect Suchet or Riley to suddenly start waxing poetic about the evils of fake news or the perils of bot commenters. No, instead, apparently the series will tackle broader and less controversial topics, such as how reporters navigate the new and varied ethical minefields facing them in their industry today.

These include the challenges of both living and working in a 24-hour news cycle that never ends, as well as the rise of social media, which makes virtually everyone with a smart phone a “reporter” of some type. Who decides what’s newsworthy? Who frames what’s true? What does the idea of “news” even mean anymore?

However, the series synopsis still promises plenty of high stakes and drama to go along with these loftier industry debates.

"Set in the fast-paced and challenging environment of the British newspaper industry, Press will immerse viewers in the personal lives and the constant professional dilemmas facing its characters. The series follows their lives as they attempt to balance work and play, ambition and integrity, amid the never-ending pressure of the 24-hour global news cycle and an industry in turmoil."

Press begins on Sunday, October 6 at 10pm ET on Masterpiece. It’ll join a stacked Sunday night line-up that includes the final seasons of both The Durrells in Corfu and Poldark. So, you know, prepare your DVRs accordingly, cause that’s an awful lot of peak TV in one sitting.

What you all do think? Does Press look like something you’d watch? Or are you over with pretty much everything having to do with the news industry these days? Let’s discuss in the comments.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
