Watch: See the First Trailer For Karen Gillan’s New ABC Comedy ‘Selfie’
As previously mentioned, former Doctor Who companion Karen Gillan will be headed back to our television screens this Fall, as the star of a brand new ABC comedy called Selfie.
Gillan’s new show is ostensibly a My Fair Lady update, and follows the story of a self-obssessed social media star named Eliza Dooley (in case you didn’t get this was a My Fair Lady remake), who realizes that a “like” doesn’t necessarily translate to a friend.
She becomes internet famous following the release of a particularly humiliating viral video, and subsequently hires a marketing expert – played by the always awesome John Cho (Sleepy Hollow, Star Trek) to help her repair her tarnished image.

Personally, I think Gillan is a very good actress, and surprisingly adept at comedy. I would very much like to see her find success on American television, and I think she’s more than capable of carrying a show on her own. Unfortunately, for me, this trailer has a lot of problems – not the least of which being that I don’t entirely understand how this premise can sustain itself over an entire 22 episode season – and while I’d like to believe it’s just the fact that pilots, particularly comedy pilots, are always the worst episode of anything, um…I don’t know. I want to like it, but this trailer is making it kind of difficult.
Also, there's the fact that I’m apparently always going to hate that the name of this show is Selfie. I mean, come on, y’all.
