'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' Is Two Love Stories Connected Through Time

As time-traveling period romance Outlander wraps up its penultimate season, Starz wants fans of author Diana Gabaldon's fictional universe to know its story is still far from over. After all, there are still ten episodes of the flagship series remaining. However, there are even odds that the cable network will divvy those into two batches to drag out the final season of one of their most popular series for as long as possible. But there's also Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the highly anticipated prequel series that delves into the family histories of the original's popular leads, and its release is now confirmed to only be a few months away.

Blood of My Blood will arrive on the cable network at a still-to-be announced this summer, taking the franchise back to Scotland and giving us not one new love story to swoon over but two, connected through time and family ties. The series will follow the romances of Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, as well as Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser. Fans already know that these two couples are destined to become the parents of Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp, the characters at the heart of Outlander, played by stars Sam Heughan and Catriona Balfe. And, much like their future children, their stories will be told across multiple timelines as the show shifts between the 18th-century Scottish Highlands and the battlefields of World War I.

While we know a few details about Ellen's life thanks to Claire's time as a guest among the MacKenzie clan during Outlander's first season, most of her relationship with Brian is a mystery. We know even less about Julia and Henry, just that they died in a car accident when Claire was five years old. The show certainly has a lot of room to maneuver regarding the specifics of their stories and how they may or may not mirror one another.
