'The Great British Baking Show' Is Ready to Buzz Us In
Since 2016, it has felt like the U.S. is on the verge of a nervous breakdown every four years heading into November. But no matter how awful it is out in the world, there's been one safe place for everyone to go every autumn: The Tent on the Lawn, outside a Grand Old Manor, where the U.K. holds The Great British Baking Show. By the time the fall of 2020 rolled around and the horrors of COVID were peaking, it seemed everyone was sitting down to weekly installments of the gentlest reality competition out there. Currently, 2024 is not as quite as bad as all that. (Starmer did win in the U.K., and it looks like things are trending upward in the U.S.) But that doesn't mean we aren't going to all want to escape to the Land of Baked Goods every week, where the most significant problems are soggy bottoms.
Channel 4 knows things are rough out there. (Things haven't been easy for the network these last few years either, threatened by the Tories of being sold off while facing mass budget cuts.) The fact is, they all want to escape as much as we do. That's why the first trailer is so perfect, reminding us the tent has an upcoming scheduled place in our diaries. It takes Noel and Alison — the best hosting duo in the tent since Sue and Mel — and turns them into flying insects, escorting us to the land of bread, butter, and jam.
Channel 4 did not announce the date for Season 15 to return, only that it would be "later in the year," but considering the holiday schedule, it will have to start airing soon for the finale to air before the Christmas specials start. Until then, let's ride away with Alison and Noel.
