Six-part psychological thriller Close to Me  pon streaming service Sundance Now this month, and if the trailer is anything to go by the series is going to be a tense, twisty ride.

The series, which just finished its run on Channel 4 in the U.K., is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Amanda Reynolds and follows the story of Jo Harding, a woman who, on the surface seems to have it all. Or that's what she tells herself at any rate - at least until a fall erases a year from her memory.  But as she slowly begins to piece past events together, Jo realizes just how wrong she was about that fact. Was her fall really an accident? Was she alone when it happened? And who out there is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her from finding out?

Connie Nielsen, perhaps best known these days for her role as Queen Hippolyta of Themiscyra in the DC Comics movies Wonder Woman, Justice League, and Wonder Woman 1984, plays Jo, alongside former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston as her husband Rob. And Rob, it would seem, is a man with plenty of his own secrets to keep, who appears to be hiding something fairly significant from his wife. Is it about her missing year?

This is likely the first time many Americans have seen former Ninth Doctor Eccleston in something since he left the TARDIS. (No, being made virtually unrecognizable with makeup in Thor: The Dark World doesn't count and the underrated family drama The A Word never really caught on in the States.) Which - and I realized I am very biased here, him being my Doctor and all - feels like a sort of early Christmas present, even if he may turn out to be playing a gaslighting possibly dangerous husband.

Watch the trailer for yourselves below.

Close to Me premieres on Sundance Now and AMC+ on Thursday, December 16, with new episodes following weekly thereafter through January 20.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
