'Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl's Trailer Is an Anti-Smart Gnome Advert
Even though it was apparent when Netflix confirmed Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl would debut on New Year's Weekend that the film would first drop on the BBC on Christmas Day, Auntie Beeb did not outright confirm it at the time. Instead, the British Broadcaster waited until the movie's final trailer to 'fess up to what everyone already knew: Wallace, Gromit, and newest invention/headache, Norbot, will debut on December 25, 2024, on both BBC One and Player, so everyone should ready themselves for Feather McGraw to try and steal Christmas.
However, viewers in America should not feel so smug that they put together when the film would premiere before the BBC announced it because, along with the confirmation, the news came that BBC viewers would also get a brand new set of Wallace & Gromit mini-shorts. These 15-second clips are known in the industry as "idents" or "station IDs;" they are the little clips that play at the end of commercial breaks, reminding viewers which network they're watching. Created by Aardman, these specially made shorts will air on BBC One all throughout December. Sadly, since Netflix does not run anything comparable (not even if you have Netflix-with-ads), these will be for U.K. viewers only.
Despite the disappointment, the new trailer the BBC and Netflix jointly premiered should cheer everyone up as we finally get a good look at how the Smart Gnome and Feather McGraw storylines will intersect.
Here's the film's synopsis:
Aardman's four-time Academy Award®-winning director Nick Park and Emmy Award-nominated Merlin Crossingham return with a brand new epic adventure, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. In this next installment, Gromit’s concern that Wallace is becoming too dependent on his inventions proves justified when Wallace invents a “smart” gnome that seems to develop a mind of its own. When it emerges that a vengeful figure from the past might be masterminding things, it falls to Gromit to battle sinister forces and save his master… or Wallace may never be able to invent again!
But who could possibly be behind such evil actions?! Rightfully behind bars for all this time, Feathers McGraw is back with vengeance.
The voice cast of Wallace & Gromit’s newest adventure stars Ben Whitehead as Wallace (original voice Peter Sallis, passed in 2021), Reece Shearsmith (Saltburn) as Norbot, Peter Kay as the now-promoted DI Albert Mackintosh, Lauren Patel (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) as his latest eager recruit PC Mukherjee, and Lenny Henry (Three Little Birds) as Mr. Convenience. Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton) voices the judge, Diane Morgan (Afterlife) plays the local TV news reporter, and Muzz Khan (Galavant) is the host of Up North News.
Series creator Nick Park wrote the story with longtime collaborator Mark Burton (who turned it into a screenplay). Park also co-directed with Aardman’s longtime creative director, Merlin Crossingham, and Richard Beek produced. Park and Burton executive produce the film with Sarah Cox, Peter Lord, and Carla Shelley.
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl will debut on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Christmas Day and on Friday, January 3, 2025, on Netflix everywhere else.
