ITV/Masterpiece

If you're currently streaming I, Jack Wright over on BritBox, you may have found yourself missing Unforgotten more than usual this week. Perhaps the good folks at PBS HQ and Masterpiece were, too, because the entire lineup for Summer 2025 had arrived, and the return of Unforgotten for Season 6 is one of the highlights. The series finished airing in the U.K. in early 2025, and despite the series inching towards double-digit seasons, Season 6 was a massive hit, with the show's viewership hitting record numbers as more fans got on board with the new Jess & Sunny partnership.

(No shade to the Jack Wright series! It's exactly what I expected it to be, which is a version of Unforgotten led by Harry Lloyd instead of Nicola Walker/Sinead Keenan. But also: 12 suspects?!?! It makes Unforgotten's four per season feel luxurious.)

Speaking of Sunny and Jess, Unforgotten's transfer of power from Walker to Keenan was not as smooth as one might have hoped in Season 5. (The attempt to pull it off on top of a super complex case was asking a little much of the six-episode format.) However, the part that mattered — the chemistry with Sanjeev Bhaskar, who plays right-hand-man Sunny Khan, was on point by the season's halfway mark, and the enthusiastic reception Season 6 got heavily suggests that with that out of the way, the show's ensemble will be back to top form for the new case.

Here is PBS's version of the Season 6 synopsis:

Detective Chief Inspector James and Detective Inspector Khan return for Season 6 of Unforgotten. We follow as they uncover the truth behind a dismembered body found in Whitney Marsh and the series once again examines the lives of a disparate group of people linked to the victim.

The ITV one is a little more forthcoming:

The new season will see Jess and Sunny investigating when suspected human remains are discovered on Whitney Marsh. It soon becomes clear that the remains are relatively recent and that the body was put there already dismembered. Meanwhile, we are introduced to outspoken TV commentator Melinda Ricci, Martin ‘Marty’ Baines, an autistic man who lives with his mother, Asif Syed, an Afghan who is preparing for his UK citizenship test, and history lecturer and faculty head Juliet Cooper. Jess, Sunny, and their team must unravel their connections to find out the truth.

Keenan and Bhaskar are joined by all the usual suspects for Season 6, including fan favorites Carolina Main as DC Fran Lingley, Jordan Long as DS Murray Boulting, Pippa Nixon as DC Karen 'Kaz' Willetts, and Georgia McKenzie as Leanne Balcombe. Kate Robbins and Andrew Lancel also return as Jessie's mother, Kate, and husband, Steve, respectively.

The Season 6 topline guest stars playing the case's suspects include MyAnna Buring (The Responder), Victoria Hamilton (COBRA), Jan Francis (The Duchess of Duke Street), Damien Molony (Bergerac), Elham Elas (Young Wallander), and newcomer Max Fairley. Supporting cast includes Adrian Rawlins (Moonflower Murders), Pixie Davies (The White Princess), Michele Dotrice (A Very English Scandal), Emmett J. Scanlan (The Tower), Oliver Lansley (Doctor Who), Lisa Davina Phillip (The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin), and David Witts (Manhunt).

As usual, series creator Chris Lang (I, Jack Wright) wrote all six episodes, with director Andy Wilson helming all installments. Lang executive produces with Sally Haynes and Laura Mackie. The series is co-produced by Mainstreet with Masterpiece in association with BBC Studios, with Huw Kennair-Jones overseeing the production on behalf of ITV.
