Despite its major network backing, NBC streaming service Peacock unfortunately still feels like something of an afterthought to most U.S. viewers, many of whom may not even be aware of the service or the breadth of its original programming slate. This is a shame — not only because Peacock has several fantastic offbeat comedies (Rutherford Falls, Girls5Eva) to its credit, but because it's also a secret treasure trove of contemporary British television content. (It also happens to be the destination for streaming the latest Downton Abbey movie, if that interests any of you.)

Buzzy comedy Everything I Know About Love joins the lineup this August, alongside titles like Jed Mercurio's Trigger Point, deep fake hacker drama The Capture, and Peter Kominsky's forthcoming The Undeclared War. But if the trailer is anything to go by, it feels like it could be the streamer's first big crossover hit. (I get serious Starstruck vibes from this, is what I'm saying.)

Based on the bestselling memoir of the same name by journalist and podcaster Dolly Alderton, which won a 2018 National Book Award for autobiography, Everything I Know About Love follows the lives of a quartet of girls as they navigate their early 20s in London. A series whose primary love story is the friendship at its center, this comedy-drama aims to explore the joys, heartbreaks, triumphs, and tragedies that come along with this stage of life. It's got everything from bad dates and heartbreak to the joyous camaraderie you can only experience when sharing a house with the four people who know you best.

Part of the story looks as though it will also be about the inevitable revaluation that often occurs at this point in your life — now, proper adults, what do these young women want their lives to look like? How will each of them change outside of the relatively protective bubble of university? And how will the relationships between them all evolve? (Particularly when it appears that one of the girls gets a real boyfriend who looks as though he might stick around past a few nights out.)

The series synopsis describes the show as follows.

The central love story of Everything I Know About Love is between childhood best friends Maggie and Birdy. But it is also a raucous girl gang show, set in a 2012 London house-share inhabited by four girls - Maggie, Birdy and their mates from university, Amara and Nell. The series is an unflinching deep dive into bad dates, heartaches and humiliations and begs the question: can platonic love survive romantic love as we grow up?

The seven-part series, which aired in the U.K. this past June, was written and created by Alderton. It stars Emma Appleton (Pistol), Bel Powley (The Morning Show), Marli Siu (Alex Rider), Aliya Odoffin (Better Get Better), Connor Finch (The Larkins), Jordan Peters (Gangs of London), and Ryan Bown (Lambs of God).

Everything I Know About Love arrives on Peacock on Thursday, August 25.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision.
