it's official:  We'll be heading back to Granite Harbour for another round of crime-solving next year. The popular Scotland-set police procedural starring Romario Simpson (Small Axe) and Hannah Donaldson (Annika) has been renewed for a second season.

The series' first installment follows the story of ex-Royal Military policeman Davis Lindo as he relocates from Jamaica to Aberdeen to retrain for a position in the local police force. Paired with a down-home Scottish police sergeant named Lara 'Bart' Bartlett, the unlikely duo find themselves thrust headfirst into a complicated murder involving a local billionaire oil magnate, who is found dead just as his company was set to merge with a renewables firm.

Season 2 will once again be comprised of three episodes and will reportedly see Lindo and Bart called to the harbor to investigate the origins of a new crime wave sweeping the city. [Insert ominous music here.]

“I'm delighted to be returning to Scotland to film season 2 of Granite Harbour," Simpson said in a statement announcing the renewal. "I'm looking forward to reuniting with the original cast and collaborating with some new creatives. It’s another opportunity to learn more about Aberdeen, and take in some vital fresh air and open space."

Though Granite Harbour only just premiered in the U.S. this month --- it's currently available to stream via BritBox --- the crime drama was a surprise hit in the U.K., racking up over 7.5 million streams on iPlayer following its premiere in December of 2022.

“Growing up as an aspiring young actress in the northeast of Scotland I didn’t often see the landscapes I recognized as home or hear the accents of my friends and family on screen. I’m very proud to be a small part of bringing Granite Harbour to life," Donaldson added. "Series 2 is an excellent opportunity for us to delve further into Bart and Lindo’s relationship and the dynamics of the team. I can’t wait to get my necktie on and get back to work with the North East Murder Investigation Team.”

Season 2 will be written by Rob Fraser (River City), Ciara Conway (Holby City) and Writers Guild of Great Britain award-winner Jillian Mannion (Death in Paradise). It will be produced by Donna Molloy (Compulsion) and directed by Martin Smith (Seagulls) and Alex Browning (The Sunset Sleeps).

Filming on the three-part second season will begin in late 2023 in locations throughout Aberdeenshire and Glasgow. Granite Harbour Season 2 is slated to premiere on the BBC Scotland channel, followed by BBC One and iPlayer in 2024. Since Season 1 came to the U.S. by way of streamer BritBox, it seems safe to assume the series' second outing will likely follow suit, though we don't have official confirmation on that as yet.
