Apple TV+ Set Target Date for 'Prime Target'
Apple TV+ will extend its current run of streaming one British series a month into 2025. Its latest, Prime Target, was first announced just under a year ago, in February 2024; a good old-fashioned thriller where a scholar on the verge of a global-level breakthrough finds himself being pursued by those who would like to prevent him from doing so, not to mention those who would like to be the ones to take credit for it instead of him.
Starring British actor Leo Woodall (best known in the States for his turn in The White Lotus) and American-born Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets), the eight-episode series is the brainchild of writer Steve Thompson (Sherlock). Woodall plays Edward Books, the scholar in question, who is, in this case, a maths genius. Swindell plays the American NSA agent put in charge of his safety as the two try to keep him alive and safe long enough to finish figuring out his world-problem-solving equation and the answer to life, the universe, and everything. (We promise to act surprised if it's 42.)
While the "genius-caught-in-a-conspiracy" is pretty popular currently, Apple TV+ tends to go all out on these sorts of series, especially the globe-trotting aspects, and the first images released for Prime Target looks to be a visual feast if nothing else.
Here's the series synopsis:
Prime Target features a brilliant young math postgraduate, Edward Brooks, who is on the verge of a major breakthrough. If he succeeds in finding a pattern in prime numbers, he will hold the key to every computer in the world. Soon, he begins to realize an unseen enemy is trying to destroy his idea before it’s even born, which throws him into the orbit of Taylah Sanders, a female NSA agent who’s been tasked with watching and reporting on mathematicians’ behavior. Together, they start to unravel the troubling conspiracy Edward is at the heart of.
Woodall and Swindell co-star alongside Stephen Rea (Flesh & Blood), David Morrissey (Sherwood), Martha Plimpton (The Regime), Sidse Babett Knudsen (Roadkill), Jason Flemyng (Jamestown), Harry Lloyd (The Lost King), Ali Suliman (Arthur the King), Fra Fee (Lost Boys & Fairies) and Joseph Mydell (Conclave).
Thompson penned the series, with Brady Hood (Great Expectations) directing all eight episodes. Thompson and Hood are executive producers with Laura Hastings-Smith, Beth Pattinson, Emma Broughton, Yariv Milchan, Arnon Milchan, Michael Schaefer & Ed Rubin for New Regency, and David W. Zucker, Marina Brackenbury & Ridley Scott for Scott Free Productions.
Prime Target arrives on Apple TV+ with two episodes on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, with one a week to follow on Wednesdays.
