‘Peaky Blinders’ Renewed for Seasons 4 and 5
Period gangster drama Peaky Blinders will be continuing for the foreseeable future – the BBC has renewed the series for a four and fifth season, slated to continue in 2017 and beyond.
The show follows the story of Thomas Shelby and various members of his family, the notorious Shelby Gang, in 1920s Birmingham. It stars Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, Tom Hardy, Sophie Rundle, Paul Anderson and more. (Plus, it’s basically got the best soundtrack on television right now, for real. Even the late David Bowie wanted his music to be part of this.)
"I am genuinely thrilled at the response to the third series of the show. The prospect of writing series four and five is truly exciting,” said series creator Steven Knight, who will continue to pen all episodes of the series. “This is a real passion project for me, and I look forward to telling more stories of the Shelby family."
The third season of the show just hit Netflix here in the US last week, and airs its finale in the UK on June 9. Since the last episode of Season 3 hasn’t aired for British audiences as yet, the renewal announcement is predictably thin on details, and doesn’t even mention basic things like which actors will be returning, beyond Murphy himself.
“Tommy Shelby is one of the most intense, challenging characters I’ve had the opportunity to play,” the actor said in a statement. “I’m particularly grateful that Steven’s original, dynamic writing and the long form series allow me to explore Tommy in depth. I very much look forward to Tommy’s evolution over the next two chapters.”
All I want is for McCrory’s incredible Aunt Polly to get more screentime, so we’ll see how lucky I turn out to get with that request that in due course.
