'Only Lovers Left Alive' with Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton Gets US Release Date
The film, which features internet darling and The Hollow Crown star Tom Hiddleston alongside Tilda Swinton, Anton Yelchin, John Hurt and Mia Wasikowska, will hit American theaters in limited release beginning April 11, 2014. Of course “limited release” generally tends to translate to “you’ll probably still have to wait a couple of weeks if you don’t live in New York or Los Angeles”, but at least we know it’s coming, eventually.
Only Lovers Left Alive follows the story of a pair of vampires named Adam and Eve, who have been together for centuries, embroiled in a rather epic love story. Lest you think this is just a more grown-up Twilight, the plot seems to be a bit more emotionally complex.
The basic story goes something like this: Adam and Eve are currently living on opposite continents, because it would seem this is something you can do when you’re immortal. Adam has become increasingly disillusioned by humanity’s cruelty and culture ignorance and has taken to making a living as a reclusive musician. Adam reunites with Eve, who leaves her home overseas to move in with him in the downtrodden Motor City. They eventually get a visit from Eve’s irresponsible sister – played by Wasikowska – who irritates Adam and eventually causes trouble with the one human with whom the depressed musician gets along.
