Hulu, BBC Three, and RTE hit upon a winning strategy of unlikely romances in 2018 with back-to-back hits of Normal People and Conversations with Friends. The newest collaboration doesn't include the Beeb, but it does have a series that qualifies as an unconventional romance... of a sort, anyway. Obituary is a dark comedy about struggling journalist Elvira Clancy, played by Siobhán Cullen (The Dry), who discovers that to keep her job as a columnist writing about the passing in the small Irish town where she lives, she might have to help a few of the residents along. It's going great until she meets the new hire covering the sudden spate of unusual deaths in her town.

It's a series that takes the killer's POV in the typical British genre of small-town murders while throwing in a touch of romance for the anti-heroine at the center of the story. But is there a way for this less-than-typical Agatha Christie villain to find her way out of the jam she built for herself? Or will her crush just have to be the next feature in her column? Lucky for Americans, the series, which debuted in Ireland in October, is heading this way just in time for Thanksgiving, so everyone will have something to agree on after the turkey is polished off.

Check out the trailer below.

Here's the series synopsis:

24-year-old Elvira Clancy is feeling a little unfulfilled, although she adores her new job writing obituaries, but when her newspaper falls on hard times, and her boss cuts her salary, she finds herself being paid per obituary overnight. When she “accidentally” kills a nasty piece of work in the town, she discovers she might have a previously untapped bloodlust!

She relishes using ever more crafty methods to kill off the town’s unpleasant residents while making them look like accidents. Stalk. Kill. Publish. Repeat. Unfortunately, a wrench lands in the works - the paper hires a suspicious new crime correspondent, and she really, really likes him...
