Netflix's Next U.K. Series Asks 'Who Is Erin Carter?'

Netflix is no longer the go-to one-shop-stop for British content on streaming the way it was a decade ago. U.K. imports are now found everywhere, from Hulu and Amazon following Netflix's example, the launches of BritBox, the acquisition of Acorn TV by AMC Networks, PBS Passport becoming more widespread, and HBO Max (which is now Max) attempting to ape Netflix by getting its own British content. However, Netflix still brings at least one U.K. title a week, mainly documentaries, interspersed with the occasional hit series like Sex Education, Bridgerton, and Heartstopper. Its latest addition is the limited series, Who Is Erin Carter? a mystery thriller of the erased memory variety.

The series was initially announced under Palomino and developed by creator-showrunner-executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, best known as the woman behind Netflix's massive hit The Witcher. Produced by The Crown's Left Bank Pictures, the series was written by Doc Martin's Jack Lothian, who also served as showrunner. Despite being a contemporary thriller with a female badass lead, which doesn't sound like the sort of thing fans of The Witcher, Doc Martin, or The Crown might be into, the series does hope to pick up the same slive of viewers.

Viewers first looked at Who Is Erin Carter? as part of Netflix's overview of action movies and shows coming this year, released in May 2023, along with the new title. Swedish actor Evin Ahmad who previously appeared in Netflix's scandi-noir series The Rain, takes on the role of Erin, and her fighting skills are on display in the trailer.
