Anthony Boyle & James Norton to lead Steven Knight's 'House of Guinness'
Anthony Boyle’s breakout year continues. The actor, who first made a name for himself as Scorpius Malfoy in Harry Potter & The Cursed Child, has been just about everywhere, co-starring in Masters of the Air, Manhunt, and Shardlake in the first half of 2024 alone. He’s also filmed a plum role in FX’s Say Nothing. Now he’s leading the ensemble in Netflix’s highly-anticipated dynastic drama, House of Guinness, a fictionalized retelling of the famous Irish brewery family from Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight and how they became synonymous with stout beer alongside PBS favorite James Norton (Grantchester).
Boyle will star as the eldest son of the Guinness family, Arthur Guinness, the third of his name in the family. He was named for his great-grandfather, who originally bought the St. James’s Gate Brewery in 1759, and for his grandfather, who passed the family business to his father, Benjamin Guinness. Benjamin’s business acumen was such that he took sole possession of the empire upon the second Arthur’s passing, and the clan had become the wealthiest family in Ireland by the time he passed in 1855.
Boyle leads an ensemble cast that will include Louis Partridge (Enola Holmes) as middle brother Edward, Emily Fairn (The Responder) as sister Anne, and Fionn O’Shea (Normal People) as youngest sibling Benjamin. The series follows Sir Benjamin’s death and covers the siblings’ empire takeover. James Norton plays local Irish native Sean Rafferty, while Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones), who recently returned to acting, plays Byron Hughes.
Here's the series synopsis:
An epic story inspired by The Guinness family, a European dynasty made famous by the drink they brew, set in 19th-century Dublin and New York. The story reimagines the period immediately after the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness, the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery, and the far-reaching impact of his will on the fate of his four adult children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, as well as on a group of Dublin characters who work and interact with the phenomenon that is Guinness.
Boyle, Fairn, Partridge, O'Shea, Norton, and Gleeson are only the tip of the iceberg. The cast also features Niamh McCormack (Everything Now), Seamus O’Hara (Blue Lights), Dervla Kirwan (The Stranger), Michael McElhatton (The Long Shadow), Danielle Galligan (Obituary), David Wilmot (Bodkin) and Hilda Fay (The Woman in the Wall).
Steven Knight penned all eight episodes with directors Tom Shankland (The Missing) and Mounia Akl (Boiling Point) splitting helming duties. Cahal Bannon is the series producer, and Howard Burch is the producer. Shankland and Knight executive produce along with Karen Wilson, Elinor Day, Martin Haines, and Ivana Lowell.
House of Guinness does not have an official release date, but it is expected out in 2025.
