Part of the fun of watching big costume dramas like Downton Abbey or Bridgerton is seeing what the cast gets up to when their time wearing period dress has come to an end. In the years since Downton transferred to the big screen, former stars like Dan Stevens and Lily James have landed everything from big-budget Disney films (Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella) to prestige television gigs (The Terror, Pam & Tommy).

Bridgerton is heading into its fourth season on Netflix, which means its current stars don't necessarily have the time for numerous other projects. But some of the previous leads do. Rege-Jean Page, who played the hunky Duke of Hastings, was a knight in a Dungeons & Dragons movie; new Vicountess Bridgerton Simone Ashley has a charming rom-com (Picture This) out over on Prime Video; and her on-screen husband Jonathan Bailey is currently starring as Richard II in London's West End. But it's Phoebe Dynevor, who played eldest daughter Daphne Bridgerton, who seems to enjoy choosing roles that feel quite far afield from the Regency heroine that made her famous.

She starred in the steamy Netflix thriller Fair Play last year, and her latest project, Inheritance, is set to arrive on AMC+ this summer. The film, an espionage thriller, sees Dynevor play Maya, a young woman who discovers her father is a spy and the pair becomes embroiled in an international conspiracy. Shot entirely on an iPhone, the film's gritty, hyper-realistic style follows Maya through New York City, Cairo, New Delhi, and Seoul as she searches for both answers and her absentee father (played by Rhys Ifans from Our Flag Means Death).

Here's the film synopsis.

When Maya learns that her father was once a spy, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an international conspiracy. In her quest for answers, Maya becomes a target and must travel the globe, mastering her father’s skills and unraveling the mysteries of his past in this gripping espionage thriller.

Alongside Dynevor and Ifans, the film also stars Ciara Baxendale (Trying), Majd Eid (The Bombing of Pan Am 103), Kersti Bryan (Elementary), Byron Clohessy (Blue Bloods), Salim Siddiqui (Midnight Hero), and José Alvarez (The Get Down).

Inheritance is an absorbing spy thriller which invigorates the espionage genre with a fresh cinematic approach and a knockout, gritty performance from Phoebe Dynevor," Scott Shooman said when IFC's acquisition of the film was announced earlier this year.  I’ve been a massive fan of Neil’s for years, and we are thrilled to collaborate on this movie."

The film is directed by Neil Burger (The Marsh King's Daughter), who co-wrote the film with Olen Steinhauer (Berlin Station). Executive producers are Andrew Golov and Thom Zadra, with Zoe Edelman and Jeffrey Penman as associate producers.

Inheritance will premiere Friday, May 2, 2025, on AMC+ and Sundance Now.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
