Three-part drama series Quiz, which depicts the famous Who Wants to Be a Millionaire cheating scandal in the U.K., will officially come to America this spring on AMC.

The show retells the real-life, sensational story of Charles Ingram, his wife Diana and an accomplice named Tecwen Whittock, who together attempted to cheat their way to huge winnings during an appearance on the popular game show. Directed by Stephen FrearsQuiz is based on a play of the same name by James Graham

In 2001, Major Ingram appeared on ITV’s edition of “Millionaire” as a contestants. The couple had arranged a scheme with an accomplice sitting in the audience of coughing to indicate correct answers to the various multiple choice options presented by host, Chris Tarrant. Though Ingram did win the one million pound prize, his check was eventually de-authorized and both the Ingrams and Whittock were all tried in court for their parts in the saga.

Howards End's Matthew Macfadyen and Fleabag's Sian Clifford star as the couple at the center of the scandal, and Good Omens' Michael Sheen plays Millionaire presenter Tarrant. Other famous faces in the cast include Mark Bonnar, Helen McCrory, Michael Jibson and Aisling Bea.

AMC will launch the miniseries, which is from The Crown producer Left Bank Pictures and is a co-production with British network ITV, over three weeks beginning on Sunday, May 31.

The second and third installments will air on June 7 and 14, respectively. But the full series will be available from premiere night on AMC Premiere, the add-on subscription that provides additional and exclusive content, as well as commercial free viewing, within the existing AMC app. (Shorter version: Yes, this is yet another streaming-adjacent service you'll have to decide if you need for your home lineup.) But unlike recent Eleanor Tomlinson vehicle The War of the WorldsQuiz will also be airing on the terrestrial channel, so you'll still be able watch it as a regular broadcast.

Does Quiz sound like a show you'd watch? Let's discuss in the comments.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
