The 'Harry Wild' Trailer Introduces A Delightful New Odd Couple

Rohan Nedd as Fergus Reid and Jane Seymour as Harriet “Harry” Wild in 'Harry Wild'

Odd couples solving mysteries is one of TV's most popular tropes, right after "people who solve mysteries in quint English villages." Put the two together, and you get some of TV's longest-running shows: Grantchester, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Inspector Morse, its spin-off, Inspector Lewis, that flip-flopped the odd couple pairing and then Endeavour, which kept the Lewis dynamic while bringing back Morse. Even some of the shorter ones continue the trope, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (and now Ms. Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries), Agatha Raisin, and Miss Scarlet & The Duke are all odd couples who work together solving crimes in the U.K. (or Melbourne.)

The latest to join the pantheon comes from Acorn TV, home to both Fisher and Agatha Raisin. The new series, the Irish-set Harry Wild, stars Jane Seymour, best know in America for Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and has starred in such series as The Kominsky Method and Franklin & Bash. As a retired English teacher, she takes up solving crimes in her spare time, inspired by her Detective Chief Inspector son. But it's not her son she pairs up with, but Fergus Reid, played by Rohan Nedd (Whitstable Pearl), a troubled teen she initially meets when he mugs her, and who, when she meets again, realizes needs a mentor and focus in his life.

The series is Acorn TV's big release for April, and the new trailer suggests that if this show takes off, it could run for a very, very long time.

Here's the official synopsis for Harry Wild:

Jolted from a mugging, recently retired professor Harry Wild agrees to recover in the home of her son, Charlie, a senior police detective. Harry starts to interfere in a particularly baffling murder case when she notices it shares striking similarities to an obscure Elizabethan play. When her path recrosses with her mugger, Fergus Reid, Harry sees potential in the troubled teen and, instead of turning him in, enlists him as her sidekick. She and Fergus find new mysteries, including a fledgling serial killer with a Dostoevsky fixation, gamblers running snuff games, and a wealthy Dublin matriarch strangled during a video call. Harry's passion brings her into conflict with Charlie, who could really do without his mother causing trouble at work.

Seymour and Nedd co-star alongside Kevin Ryan (Guilt), who plays Harry Wild's DCI son, Charlie Wild. The rest of the cast for the eight-part series include Stuart Graham (The Wheel of Time), Danielle Ryan (Wild Mountain Thyme), Ciara O'Callaghan (Tales from Dún Draíochta), Rose O'Neill (Moon Man), Anthony Delaney (Fair City), and Amy Huberman (Finding Joy).

Harry Wild's first season premieres on Monday, April 4, in the U.S. with two episodes and will follow a weekly release schedule with two episodes arriving every Monday through to the end of the month. Acorn TV has not said as yet if the show will be renewed for Season 2.
