Granite Harbour was originally commissioned in May 2022, with two rising stars, Romario Simpson (Small Axe) and Hannah Donaldson (Annika). Though, on the surface, the series seems like a bit of a clone of the popular, long-running Shetland, unlike that series, which is a fish-out-of-water for non-Scottish people, Granite Harbour is part of a move by the BBC creating shows filmed in Scotland for a Scottish audience, with BBC One taking the second run. It worked, as the show did well enough to merit a second season, which BritBox once again brings over to help cool down the summer heat.

The series features the unlikely pairing of an ex-Royal Military policeman, DC Davis Lindo, and a down-home Scottish police sergeant, DS Lara ‘Bart’ Bartlett, solving cases of the week together that add up to one larger story. Season 1 was tracking down the murder of a billionaire; Season 2 will take on organized crime by introducing the drug-smuggling McFadden family. However, as Granite Harbour is billed as a drama rather than a mystery, fans and our main leads will have plenty of outside distractions to worry about.

Season 2 once again debuted to high ratings across the pond when it arrived in May 2024; now, BritBox is bringing the new story over right in the middle of the dog days of summer, once again in the Thursday berth, as BritBox seeks to colonize the old British mystery night old PBS fans still miss, even if that mystery wants to insist it's a drama.

Returning alongside them are core cast members Bhav Joshi (The Diplomat) as DI Jay Mallick, Dawn Steele (Shetland) as DCI Cora MacMillan, and Michelle Jeram (Liar) as DS Simone ‘Monty’ Montrose. The rest of the cast turns over, with Season 2 introducing Lesley Hart (Taggart), Sani Mamood (Crime), Layla Kirk (Karen Pirie), Patrick Robinson (The Outlaws), Kate Bracken (Killing Eve), Søren Malling (Face to Face), Afsaneh Dehrouyeh (Marriage), Christopher Rygh (Vikings: Valhalla), Melina Akerman Kvie (Heder), Alex Høgh Anderson (Call Me Dad), and newcomers to TV Sam Garioch and Macleod Stephen.

Granite Harbour is the brainchild of the creative team of Adriel Leff (Moving On) and former Derbyshire police chief Kul Muhay, with Martin Smith and Alex Browning splitting helming duties across the three episodes, with Ciara Conway, Robert Fraser, and Jillian Mannion each penning a script.

Granite Harbour Season 2 debuts on BritBox, with all three episodes on August 15, 2024
