BritBox Sets April Premiere for Third Season of John Simm Crime Drama 'Grace'
Streaming service BritBox has announced that the third season of the popular crime drama Grace is set to premiere this April, just a few short weeks after its broadcast concluded in the U.K.
Based on the popular series of novels by Peter James -- which is currently at 18 books, with a nineteenth set to arrive this Fall -- the series stars John Simm (Doctor Who) as the troubled, unyielding DS Roy Grace, a detective who has given his life to his job. He's joined by Richie Campbell (Liar), who plays Grace's partner, DS Glenn Branson.
Season 3 will be comprised of three feature-length films. They will adapt the fifth, sixth, and seventh of James's novels, all set in and around the seaside city of Brighton. (The TV has been following the books in order up until this point, so this is pretty expected.)
Dead Like You sees a chilling event take place on the night of ACC Vosper's (Rakie Ayola) farewell party. In Dead Man's Grip, Grace and his team are called to a tragic accident where three different vehicles have collided. And in Not Dead Yet, Grace and Branson realize someone may be trying to harm an up-and-coming music star.
The Season 3 synopsis reads as follows:
As East Sussex police bid farewell to ACC Alison Vosper, the announcement of her replacement is not welcome news for Grace. Shaken by the recent sighting of Sandy, Roy attempts to get closer to the truth while trying to move forward with Cleo, as he is drawn into three sinister investigations. A chilling serial offender from Grace’s past, a road traffic accident which unleashes a web of vengeance and a shocking murder attempt on the Brighton music scene, all test Grace’s skill as past and present collide for Roy, forcing him to confront old memories and learn from previous mistakes.
Alongside Simm and Campbell, the season 3 cast will include Zoë Tapper (Mr. Selfridge) as Cleo Morey, Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty) as DS Norman Potting, and Laura Elphinstone (Chernobyl) as DS Bella Moy. Sam Hoare (Miss Scarlet & the Duke) replaces James D’Arcy as ACC Cassian Pewe, Grace's longtime adversary.
Dead Like You and Not Dead Yet are both written by Ben Court and Caroline Ip, with Ed Whitmore writing Dead Man's Grip. Camilla Strøm Henriksen, Isher Sahota, and Will Sinclair directed the three new installments.
Grace Season 3 will premiere on Thursday, April 20. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on BritBox
