Though Season 2 of the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses has only just wrapped up, it's already time to look ahead to the third season of the spy thriller, which will feature an exciting new face.

Gangs of London breakout star Sope Dirisu is officially joining the cast for Season 3. He'll play Sean Donovan, the former head of security at the British embassy in Istanbul, though it's unclear at the moment whether he'll be a friend or a foe to the titular group of misfit spies.

Slow Horses is based on the popular series of spy novels by Mick Herron, and follows the story of a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who've all been reassigned to serve in a dumping-ground department of MI5 known un-affectionately as Slough House. Oscar winner Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of the group, who have all essentially been removed from the field for various career-ending mistakes and are desperate to find their way back.

Season 3 will be based on the third book in Herron's series, titled Real Tigers

The series, which has already been renewed through Season 4, has become something of a sleeper hit or the streamer, steadily building an audience and garnering increasing critical interest and acclaim through its recently completed second season. In the series' upcoming third season, Lamb’s disgraced spies will reportedly have to work together to foil a rogue agent when one of their own is kidnapped.

Where Dirisu's character Donovan will fit in is anyone's guess. Though he does have a romantic link to one of the main ensemble in the books, at the moment it's unclear how closely the Apple version will follow that particular arc.

Dirisu is probably best known for his turn as Gangs of London's Elliot Finch, an undercover cop assigned to infiltrate the formidable Wallace criminal empire. But he also played the titular Mr. Malcolm in the dreamy period rom-com Mr. Malcolm's List and was nominated for a BAFTA in the British horror film His House

In addition to Oldman, the cast includes Jonathan Pryce (The Crown), Kristin Scott Thomas (Rebecca),  (The Long Song), Saskia Reeves (Roadkill), Rosalind Eleazar (Harlots), Christopher Chung (Waterloo Road), and Freddie Fox (The Murders at White House Farm)

Slow Horses Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming with all episodes on Apple TV+. Season 3 is expected out in 2023.
