Former 'Game of Thrones' Co-Stars Kit Harington and Sophie Turner to Reunite In 'The Dreadful'

While there is plenty to complain about when it comes to the last few seasons of Game of Thrones, one of the things the show consistently did right throughout its run was its depiction of the Stark clan, the long-suffering custodial wards of the North and a family who spent most of the series apart, struggling to get back to one another as more and more of their number were tortured, traumatized, or tragically killed.

But, as the saying that the Starks themselves were so fond of proving goes: The lone wolf dies, but the pack survives. And now two members of that fan-favorite pack are set to reunite on the big screen: Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark the eldest daughter who reclaimed the throne of the North for her family, and Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow, the bastard son who was actually a secret Targaryen prince. (Just go with it, it's all very complicated even before you get to the part where the revelation of Jon's true parentage hasn't even happened in George R.R. Martin's books yet.) The duo were the first of the Starks to reunite onscreen, and though it took them over five seasons to do so, the moment was highly emotional and well worth the wait.

Now, Turner and Harington are both set to star in The Dreadful, a Gothic period horror film set during the Wars of the Roses. (If Thrones fans find some delicious irony here, it's because the inter-familial struggle for the English throne during this period was actually a big inspiration for Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series.)

We don't know a ton about The Dreadful's plot just yet, but according to Deadline, Turner is set to play a woman named Anne, who lives a solitary, harsh life on the outskirts of society with her mother-in-law, Morwen. But when a man from their past returns — this unnamed role is the one Harington will play — his arrival will set off a sequence of events that become a turning point for Anne.

Natasha Kermani, whose recent projects include the horror film Lucky and Shudder's V/H/S/85, will write and direct the film.

In addition to Turner, producers on the film include Redwire Pictures/Tunnel’s Luke Daniels, as well as Storyboard Media’s Patrick Muldoon and Patrick Hibler, and Lucas Jarach. Greg Lauritano also produces under his Black Magic banner. Film Bridge International is repping foreign sales, with UTA Independent Film Group handling domestic.

Both Turner and Harington were nominated for Emmy Awards for their performances over the course of their eight seasons on Game of Thrones, and both have kept rather busy since leaving Westeros. Harington joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dane Whitman in Eternals, and since that character goes on to become the Black Knight, it's likely that we will see him reprise that role at some point in the future. Several other notable roles include BritBox's Lot No. 249 and Apple TV+'s Extrapolations.  As for Turner, she also dipped her toe into the world of superhero movies, playing Jean Grey in the most recent set of X-Men films, most notably Dark Phoenix. She starred in HBO true crime drama The Staircase and will plan an infamous jewel thief when Joan arrives on The CW later this year.

Given that production on The Dreadful has yet to begin, we likely won't see the film before 2025, but, hey, fans of the Starks are used to playing a long game.
