The critically acclaimed first series became the biggest Sky Original drama launch on Sky Atlantic of the past five years. Set one year after the tumultuous events of series one, Gangs of London series two charts London’s map and soul being redrawn. Since the collapse of the Wallace Dumani empire, order is lacking, and the energy and chaos of a gold rush threatens the city with gangland anarchy. The Investors are viewing the city as a place of ruin and decide to intervene. Licensing a new gang to restore stability, drama instead ensues. This brutal enforcer brings a new kind of authority, coldly designed to terrorise the other gangs into submission. Anyone doing business in the city must now go through them, and our gangs must decide where their loyalties lie if they are to survive. Who will win the battle for the soul of London?

It's been nearly two years since the first season of Gangs of London arrived on our screens, but the sprawling gangland drama is finally set to return later this year.

Loosely based on the 2006 video game of the same name (yes, really), the series explores how various international criminal organizations within London fight amongst themselves for power and control. The first season focused on the fallout from a high-profile gang assassination, from the rush to fill the power vacuum that Finn Wallace left behind to the investigation into who ordered the hit.

Season 2 will pick up one year after the death of Finn's son, Sean Wallace, and follow the story of Elliott Finch (Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù) the undercover cop who infiltrated the Wallace family organization last season. Now, abandoned by the Wallaces and the police, he'll be forced to work for the Investors, one of the (many!) criminal groups working in London's underworld.

But as the Investors look down on a city sliding into chaos, they decide enough is enough and bring in reinforcements to restore control. Old favorites and new players fight back against the new order, forcing sworn enemies to work together and family members to betray each other. Who will win the battle for the city's soul?

The just-released clip doesn't reveal much about Season 2's larger story, just flashes of guns and explosions over a voice-over from Elliot recounting some of the horrors he witnessed while part of the Wallace war. Watch for yourselves below.

Other returning stars for Season 2 include Paapa Essiedu (Anne Boleyn), Lucian Msamati (Game of Thrones), Michelle Fairley (The White Princess), Orli Shuka (Save Me), Pippa Bennett-Warner (Sick Note), Brian Vernel (The Last Kingdom), Narges Rashidi (Under the Shadow), Asif Raza (Khalish), and Valene Kane (The Fall).

New faces include Waleed Zuaiter (The Spy), Fady El-Sayed (A Private War), Salem Kali (Dealer), Aymen Hamdouchi (Criminal: UK), and newcomer French rapper Jasmine Armando.

The series was one of Sky Atlantic's best debuts of the past five years, and its arrival on AMC+ just as the streamer launched was undoubtedly a subscription draw. The show currently stands as one of AMC+'s most successful series to date, and expectations for its second are similarly high.

While the streamer didn't announce a specific date for Gangs of London's return, the press release says Season 2 is coming "in 2022". As with Season 1, the second season will likely premiere exclusively on AMC+, followed by a linear broadcast on AMC at some point afterward.
