First Look at Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond with Dominic Cooper and Sherlock's Lara Pulver!

The first teaser snippet for upcoming drama Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond has officially arrived – and offers a tantalizing, but incredibly brief look at the upcoming miniseries focused on the life of James Bond author Ian Fleming.

The four-part series, which is a co-production from Sky Atlantic and BBC America, is set to explore the life of the 007 scribe, which was as dramatic as any Bond film.  Before he was an author Fleming himself was a spy and notorious playboy, and these experiences provided much of his inspiration for Bond. 

Dominic Cooper stars as Fleming, a man who is described by the series’ press release as “a charming, sophisticated maverick whose dilettanti, pleasure seeking life was turned around by WWII and led to the creation of the best known spy the world has ever known.”  Sherlock star Lara Pulver, adding another infamous woman to her resume, plays Ann O’Neill, a society figure who had a longterm on-again/off-again relationship with Fleming, before becoming his wife in 1952

Sky Atlantic has released their first teaser trailer for the upcoming drama – and while it basically shows you absolutely nothing, it’s definitely got a very distinctive vibe. In fact, it seems to want to be nothing so much as an actual trailer for a Bond film, and radiates an odd combination of action movie and paranoid thriller.  Watch:

Other familiar faces you can expect to see in Fleming include The Hour’s Anna Chancellor, The Tudors’ Annabelle Wallis, Hellboy’s Rupert Evans, The Borgias’ Camilla Rutherford and Mr. Selfridge’s Samuel West.

Fleming is set to premiere sometime in 2014 on both sides of the pond. Does this sound interesting to you?

    Biographical drama Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond will premiere as part of BBC America’s Dramaville block beginning January 29. The story follows the life of Ian Fleming, author of the famous James Bond novels, who was also a World War II spy, and a notorious playboy in his own right. (It's said he used a bit of his personal life as inspiration for Bond.)

  • Sherlock’s Lara Pulver: From Irene Adler to Bond Girl (Sort Of)

    Sherlock guest star Lara Pulver, who stock has risen considerably in the wake of her turn as an often intriguingly dressed (or not) Irene Adler in A Scandal in Belgravia, will soon star as another rather infamous woman. Pulver has been tapped to portray the wife of James Bond creator Ian Fleming in a new drama for Sky Atlantic.

    The new-four part series, tentatively titled Fleming, will explore the life of the 007 scribe, which was frequently as dramatic as any Bond film. According to Variety, the series will be set during World War II when British Naval Intelligence recruited the future author for its undercover campaign against the Nazis. Fleming’s wartime experience provided much of his inspiration for Bond and in true art-imitating-life fashion, Fleming himself was also a bit of a womanizer with a taste for alcohol. (What do you want to bet he liked his martinis shaken, not stirred?)
