Filming Set To Begin on Second Season of ‘Grantchester’
Based on a series of novels by James Runcie, Grantchester follows the story of a charismatic clergyman who turns accidental crimefighter when one of his parishoners turns up dead. He joins forces with an overworked police inspector and the pair form an unlikely crime-solving partnership and friendship.
Stars James Norton and Robson Green are back as Sidney Chambers and Geordie Keating, while Tessa Peake-Jones, Morven Christie and Kacey Ainsworth are also all listed as returning. And Dickens too, of course – we know he’s the cast member most of you were probably worried about anyway, right?
What can we expect to see in the drama’s new season then? In the final episode of Grantchester’s first season, Geordie was shot on duty. When Season 2 opens, a year has passed and he appears to have put the incident behind him. But he still feels vulnerable underneath his carefree exterior, and this puts a strain on his relationship with Cathy and his friendship with Sidney.
Meanwhile, both Sidney and Geordie have to face up to the consequences of becoming such an accomplished crime fighting duo. For Sidney, in particular, this means life becomes increasingly difficult, as he is still the vicar in a small village. Geordie has also made it his mission to find his new partner a woman. But while Sidney is technically still single, he clearly only has eyes for Amanda – whom we last saw when she was about to marry his rival, Guy.
Season 2 will be adapted from Runcie’s second Grantcheseter novel, Sidney Chambers and the Perils of the Night, and is being written by Daisy Coulam, who also penned Season 1.
New episodes will be filmed in London, Cambridge and the picturesque Cambridgeshire village of Grantchester, with an eye to a 2016 broadcast.
