The BBC has officially renewed crime drama Father Brown for a seventh season!

Based on the popular novels by G.K. Chesterton, the series stars Harry Potter’s Mark Williams in the title role of a Roman Catholic priest who solves crimes in a picturesque Cotswald village.

(This show is basically a mystery series  in a warm and fuzzy sweater, so I've been given to understand. It's a great deal more wholesome than some other series of its ilk.)

Sorcha Cusack, Jack Deam and Emer Kenny are all returning for Season 7 alongside Williams, to help Father Brown solve a whole new set of mysteries.

The news was announced via the official BBC Press Twitter account.

The official initial description of the new season is fairly vague, but offers a slight hint at what we can expect when the story continues:

When Lady Felicia (Nancy Carroll) returns from Northern Rhodesia in need of help, Father Brown is forced to conclude that none other than Hercule Flambeau (John Light) may be her greatest ally. Meanwhile a familiar face returns to Kembleford when a notorious police killer is spotted near the village, putting Sergeant Goodfellow (John Burton) in grave danger.

The press interviews surrounding the Season 7 announcement offered a few more tidbits as well.

“In this series we see anarchists, ramblers and Morris Dancers all throwing up new adventures for Father Brown but as ever, he’s more concerned with saving souls that in just bringing the guilty to justice”, said Will Trotter, Head of Daytime Drama for BBC Studios. “This summer was spent filming in our favourite locations across the Midlands from Evesham to Warwick and showcasing the beautiful period Cotswolds villages. Series seven is set to be the best one yet.”

No word on when we might expect to see a new season of the popular series on either side of the pond. Father Brown airs on most public television stations throughout the country - Season 6 is currently airing in America - so check your local listings if you're curious about giving the show a try.
