Fan Favorite Miranda Hart to Return to ‘Call the Midwife’
Heads up, Call the Midwife fans, the moment you’ve been hoping for has arrived at last!
Star Miranda Hart is officially returning to the popular period drama!
Hart has played fan favorite Chummy Noakes since the series’ first season, but the actress departed the show at the end of Season 4. Since then, Hart has been busy wrapping the final season of her sitcom Miranda and starring opposite Melissa McCarthy in the feature film Spy.
Hart is set to make an appearance in Call the Midwife’s upcoming 2016 Christmas special, and then return full time when the show comes back for Season 6 in early 2017.
The show’s writer and creator Heidi Thomas confirmed the news herself on Twitter:
Thrilled to confirm the top-notch news that Chummy is returning to #callthemidwife ! (Even though The Sun gets some of the details wrong.)

“We’ve been bursting to share the news that Chummy has now left the Mother and Baby Home and is heading back to Poplar for season 6!” the drama’s production company said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be once again featuring Miranda Hart and her fabulous blend of warmth, strength and vulnerability, as Chummy gets to grips with the medical and social challenges of the 1960s. Restored to Nonnatus House, Chummy will relish being back in the bustling world of the East End.”
Hart herself also seemed pretty enthusiastic about her impending return to Poplar:
