Believe it or not, things are heating up even more on D.I. Ray as Rachita Ray finally closes in on putting all the puzzle pieces of Frank Chapman's murder together. Our lead investigator has doubted Rav Mochani's involvement in the murder since she spoke to him in Episode 3; however, she became convinced of his innocence after she was threatened to drop the investigation by a hooded man in the penultimate episode. While the encounter rattled Rachita, she's more determined than ever to figure out what is going on.

At least one piece of the puzzle has been sorted out. Rav Mochani wasn't bringing in children from India for sex trafficking. He brought in a specific child to be a potential organ donor for Amara Choudry's (Dinita Gohil) daughter, Jasmine, who has a terminal kidney disorder. Rav and his sister were working on bringing in a donor for Jasmine in exchange for Amara getting them the bounty contract with the revenue department. Frank Chapman reached out to Rav to see if they could share the contract and was using his leverage of the Jasmine situation to leverage the Mochanis into a partnership.

Now that Frank's connection to the Mochanis is more evident, there is still the question of who would want Frank dead. A well-timed interview with Susie Chapman (Lauren Drummond) and a subsequent search of the Chapman-owned pawn shop led to finding a piece of the gun that was used to initially shoot Frank. That confirmed that the call was definitely coming from inside the Chapman house, and now Rachita will take an even better look at Susie, who is now running the family business.

However, Susie is also aware that Rachita is onto her, and she's taking things to the next level. She sent the initial threat. We also know that the masked men are also tracking Rachita, but do they also work for Susie? That hasn't been cleared up, and they were the ones who finished Frank's assassination.

If that wasn't enough on Rachita's plate, she finally confronted Clive (Steve Oram) about his group chat that was sending vile messages about her. Clive confirmed he was in the group because he was added to it and couldn't afford the optics. He also revealed that his involvement caused his wife to kick him out and that Beardsmore is the unlisted number sending the worst of the messages.

Clive already tried to report the chat to Beardsmore, who did nothing. Now, he can't escalate it because Beardsmore will know it's him. In the episode's closing moments, Rachita says they'll finally take down their racist boss once and for all.

We have one more episode of D.I. Ray Season 2, and there are still multiple loose ends to tie up. Rachita needs to find infallible evidence that Suzie Chapman was involved in Frank's murder and find out for sure who is behind the men in gorilla masks who have been executing the worst of the gang jobs all season. The sooner Rachita gets these people under arrest, the less she'll worry about being in the crossfire herself. But she has to solve this high-profile case while also taking down her boss's boss, and her boss, Kerry Henderson, does not feel chummy after Rachita also accused Henderson of throwing her under the bus.

So, things are messy, even if Rachita is on the right track. The pressure is on heading into the final episode; however, Rachita is going to need to pull in the members of her team as soon as possible if she wants a real chance at solving Frank Chapman's murder, clearing Rav Mochani's name, and getting justice for herself within the police department. All in a day's work, right? Meanwhile, we'll need a few stress balls to make it through the season's final hour.

D.I. Ray Season 2 will continue to air new episodes on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on most PBS stations, the PBS app, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel. All six episodes will be available on premiere day on PBS Passport for members to stream. As always, check your local listings. Season 1 is streaming now on PBS Passport.
