Season 1 of The Couple Next Door was a deeply disappointing watch for our recapper, who hoped the new Starz series would be another chance to ogle Sam Hueghan, one half of the leading couple in Outlander. However, unlike Starz's long-running hit, The Couple Next Door was not a female-gaze oriented romance, just set in the present day and between two sets of neighbors living in the same cul de sac. Instead, it was an oddly anti-poly, "having group sex outside of marriage makes you lose your mind" morality tale, in which characters seemed to go off the deep end from a single night of sex. Though Season 2 has fewer partners, viewers should brace for the same prejudices.

Season 2 will not bring back the mentally distressed foursome from the first season. However, we hopefully will get an update as to how they're doing, considering two of them took bullets in the Season 1 finale and one wound up being carted off to prison. But with all four now out of the neighborhood (and Jessica De Gouw's Becka someplace far away from all of this drama), the houses have been sold (in one case) and let (in the other).

In the first house, a nice-looking married couple has recently taken jobs at the local hospital and bought into what they think is a safe and secure area. In the other, a single woman has leased the property, someone the new couple knows and works with, who decided to rent nearby after hearing they were so pleased with the area. Well, at least, that's what she's telling people...

Here is the synopsis for Season 2:

The second series will see viewers venture back into the claustrophobic world of the cul-de-sac and explore the fallout of taking your fantasies and making them a reality. Brilliant heart surgeon Charlotte Roberts and her husband, consultant anaesthetist Jacob are a high-flying busy married couple. But things soon turn upside down when their mysterious new hospital colleague Mia rents out the house next door. Working her way into Charlotte and Jacob’s confidence and eventually their bed, Mia also quickly befriends cul-de-sac outcast Alan whilst Charlotte has to handle the reappearance of past flame Leo.

However, it’s not long before Mia’s past comes back to haunt her, leading Charlotte and Jacob to question who she really is, especially when patients at the hospital mysteriously start dying. But one thing is clear: giving in to desires can have deadly consequences…

Sam Palladio (Catherine the Great) and Annabel Scholey (The Sixth Commandment) star in Season 2 as Jacob and Charlotte Roberts, Aggy K Adams (The Witcher) as Mia, and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Elementary) as Leo. Hugh Dennis (Fleabag) returns as the creepy neighbor from Season 1, Alan, who as fans will remember suffered a stroke in Season 1 and was left to rot by his wife, played by Kate Robbins (Unforgotten). Robbins is not currently listed as part of the Season 2 cast, so fans who wondered if she might return to exact more revenge will probably be disappointed.

Series creator David Allison (Marcella) returns to pen Season 2, with director Dries Vos (Suspect) helming the six-part series. Jo McGrath, and Walter Iuzzolino serve as executive producers for Eagle Eye Drama, and Jen Burnet is the producer.

The Couple Next Door Season 2 is expected to arrive in the U.K. on Channel 4 in mid-2025. The series probably will not debut in the U.S. on Starz until in 2026.
