'The Cleaner' Season 3 to Wash Ashore in April

When The Cleaner first debuted in 2021, the satirical comedy crime series was looked at askance by critics who expected it to lean into body humor and gore since the premise was "Chatty Bloke Who Scrubs Up Murder Scenes Accidentally Solves Crimes." However, the series — conceived of and starring comedian Greg Davies — surprised just about everyone. Not with the content; most agreed the tone was odd at best, but the quality of guest stars and the ambition it showed were worth noting, as was the ability to get audiences to tune in.

Davies plays Wicky, the aforementioned Chatty Bloke, and each episode is basically a two-hander or three-hander, meaning it's Davies going one-on-one or two-on-one with his high-profile one-episode wonders. Davies is the only character to appear in every episode, though as the show has gone on, co-star Zita Sattar, who stars as PS Ruth Edwards, has appeared more and more. The character started out as Wicky's friend, a necessary supporting character, so there was someone who could arrest the bad guy when the script required it. However, the chemistry between Ruth and Wicky reached undeniable levels in Season 2, and now they're shacking up.

The show's first two seasons were a sleeper hit, but by the time Season 3 was confirmed, BritBox was already bringing the seasons over regularly. Season 3 aired in the U.K. in the fall of 2024, and now it's crossing the pond to premiere in the U.S. in April. Meanwhile, BritBox is also working to get the show more fans by licensing Season 1 to select PBS stations and PBS Passports. So now there's no excuse not to check out what our reviewer called "The Britcom you didn't know you needed."
