'Grantchester's Robson Green to Play a Villain in New Series 'Catch You Later'
Much like most Americans were unaware until recently that Disney owned Hulu, most U.K. (and U.S.) viewers have no idea Channel 5, the network behind All Creatures Great & Small, is owned by Paramount. As we have mentioned, Paramount is in the middle of being sold to Skydance due to the streaming wars bankrupting the century-old entertainment company. As part of the company's refresh to sweeten the deal for buyers in early 2024, Channel 5 was reorganized and rebranded in March under the "5" logo to highlight the network's deep bench of library titles. The result helped Channel 5 achieve record subscriber growth, making it the model its new American owners hope to replicate.
Part of the My5 streaming strategy has focused on producing its originals. That may not sound like a significant shift for a TV network; however, anyone who looks at the lineups found on non-BBC stations will note that all of them (including ITV) have relied heavily on imported American shows for decades, most of which shifted to the various international streaming services launched in the last five years. From the newest release, The Good Ship Murder, to hits like Too Good To Be True (coming to BritBox under the tile Captivated), Inspector Ellis, and The Inheritance, Channel 5 has been producing a line up of bangers in the last year or so, all of which crossed the pond easily.
Its newest title is another guaranteed tune-in for U.K. viewers and one that will catch the eye of Americans when it lands distribution over here: Catch You Later (technically the working title), which stars PBS favorites Robson Green (Grantchester) as a possible villain and Jason Watkins (Around the World in 80 Days) as the cop who wants to prove he is.
