‘Call the Midwife’ Season 7 Will Premiere on PBS this Spring

If you loved the recent Call the Midwife holiday special but are sad that it was just one episode, here’s a bit of good news to kick off your 2018. Call the Midwife Season 7 isn’t too far away!

The drama’s seventh season is currently slated to premiere in the U.K. this winter, likely within the month of January at some point if previous seasons are anything to go by. But U.S. viewers won’t be too far behind! 

Season 7 will come to America shortly after its UK run. Call the Midwife will return to PBS stations nationwide with a two hour premiere on March 25. It’ll then continue with its regular hour-length episodes every Sunday after that through May 6, 2018.

As for what will happen in Season 7? Well, we don’t quite know that just yet. (Look for more details on that score when British promotion kicks off in the next couple weeks.) But here’s the official description from PBS’ press release:

Poplar welcomes Lucille Anderson, the first West Indian midwife to be featured as a series regular. Tested as never before, the nuns and nurses face challenging issues, from leprosy, tokophobia and stroke to Huntington’s chorea and unmarried mothers.

Per the official BBC description of the new season from back when filming first started, we know that part of the new challenges facing our favorite nuns and nurses will involve the old East End vanishing, as slum clearances make way for bold new tower blocks to accommodate expanding communities. Change, it would seem, is inevitable. How will they react?

We already know that several popular characters won’t be back for Season 7, so expect some new faces to pop up here in there. These include characters such as Leonie Elliot’s previously mentioned Lucille, whose addition is meant to help explore the experiences of Caribbean nurses who came over in the 1960s to support the growing NHS.

If you missed the Call the Midwife holiday episode, it’s currently streaming online for a limited time. (Through January 23, to be exact. Check out our recap afterward!)
