It is a truth universally acknowledged that streamer Acorn TV is rapidly becoming a go-to destination not just for cozy crime dramas, but for cozy crime dramas starring actors looking for a reboot into a different phase of their careers. The best example of this is probably My Life is Murder, the popular series in which former Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless has been playing a retired police detective who helps solve crimes around her new hobbies of baking and spending time with her cat for over four seasons now.
But Lawless is hardly alone: Former Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman star Jane Seymour is playing the titular crime-solving English professor Harry Wild, with its fourth season slated to kick off this spring. Nineties icon Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) is set to lead the forthcoming Irish Blood. Even former True Blood heartthrob Steven Moyer is getting in on the act, tracking down prestige art thieves in Art Detectives.
Now Acorn TV has greenlit another series in this vein, featuring another highly recognizable star. Actress, model, and entrepreneur Brooke Shields (Mother of the Bride) is set to lead Allie & Andi, a New England-set crime drama that follows the story of a bestselling writer who joins forces with a popular influencer to find a killer.
The series is created by Robin Bernheim, known for her work on shows as diverse as Star Trek: Voyager and When Calls the Heart. She and Shields recently collaborated on the Netflix movie Mother of the Bride.
Here's the series' logline.
Set in a quaint New England colonial town, Allie & Andi is a six-episode murder mystery series following a bestselling novelist who forms an unlikely alliance with an aspiring writer and influencer to find the killer of a close friend.
“I’m overjoyed to collaborate once again with the incredible Robin Bernheim, who has created two strong, smart women you want to root for within Allie & Andi," Shields said in a statement. "The writing and storytelling really resonate with me, and this is a project I’m not only proud of but a role I can’t wait to play."
Shields will also serve as an executive producer on the six-part murder mystery series. There's no word yet on who will be playing the titular Andi alongside her, so let the casting speculation begin.
“Acorn TV and AMC Studios are elated to move forward with Robin’s compelling and clever journey of two dynamic characters on a search for the truth anchored by powerhouse Brooke Shields,” Rob Fox, EVP, Production, AMC Networks, said. “Our aim is to stay true to the deep-rooted and sophisticated storytelling that the Acorn TV audience has come to expect, and they will not be disappointed with this vibrant ride. We’re thankful to Robin, Brooke, and our partners at Dynamic for bringing Allie & Andi together.”
Filming on Allie & Andi is slated to begin this Fall, and the series will premiere in 2026.
