Filming for Season 3 of Beyond Paradise is officially underway, according to the BBC and BritBox. The first spinoff of the super-popular Death in Paradise (which recently reached its 100-episode milestone and will be introducing its fifth lead detective with Season 14) has been a runaway hit for Auntie Beeb and her BritBox offspring; Season 2's near-miss wedding between lead characters DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) brought in 7.5 million viewers earlier in 2024, and that's just the viewers counted on the far side of the pond. (Like most streaming services, BritBox does not release viewership numbers.)

At the time, the BBC and BritBox put out a press release touting the third season renewal and a Festive special for 2024. However, with filming now underway, the press release from the BBC only mentions Season 3. That does not automatically mean the Festive special isn't happening; as fans will tell you, the 2023 Festive Special was technically considered Season 2, Episode 1, much the same way that Call The Midwife's Festive specials are always the lead-in for the coming season.

However, the BBC has not announced a release date for any new episodes, so it remains to be seen whether Season 3, Episode 1, arrives in December 2024 or early 2025, along with the rest of the new installments.

Until then, viewers have a new synopsis and the confirmation of the return of a Season 1 character whose presence DI Humphrey did not exactly miss in Season 2.

Here’s the third season synopsis:

Set against the idyllic backdrops of Devon and Cornwall, there are plenty of cases to keep the team on their toes, including a body found in the river on the county border, a baffling chocolate box poisoning, a historic farming feud and a spiking incident on the water. Away from the police station, Martha and Humphrey must overcome unexpected hurdles as foster parents, while the reappearance of Martha’s old flame Archie presents an unexpected challenge. While Esther navigates a surprise encounter in her private life, a health scare for Anne stirs up painful memories, and Kelby embarks on a journey of personal growth.

The third season will see the return of Marshall and Bretton as Humphrey and Martha. They will once again be joined by Zahra Ahmadi (The Bay) as DS Esther Williams and Melina Sinadinou (Early Twenties) as her daughter Zoe; Dylan Llewellyn (Derry Girls) as PC Kelby HartfordFelicity Montagu (Tom Jones) as Margo Martins, Jade Harrison (Insomnia) as CS Charlie Woods, and Barbara Flynn (The Durrells) as Martha’s mother, Anne. Season 3 will also bring back Jamie Bamber (Cannes Confidential) as Archie Hughes after the character was absent in Season 2.

Tim Key, the Executive Producer of Red Planet Pictures (which was recently acquired by Fremantle), says: “We are delighted to be back in the beautiful South West, filming what promises to be our strongest series yet, packed full of mysteries, surprises, challenges and lots of heart. We love making the show and the audience response to it is fantastic, and it’s especially exciting to welcome back Jamie Bamber to Shipton Abbott– we can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been up to.”

Beyond Paradise Season 3 will debut in 2025.
