Beyond Paradise initially started as Death in Paradise's not-nearly-as-cool younger sibling, taking the parent show's main selling point (being set in the Caribbean) and doing away with it in favor of Devon's picturesque (and much closer to home) southern coast. (One assumes the title Death in Much More Commutable Locations was not considered.) But the home truth the production had hit on was that, like many cozy crime shows, it's not the location that matters as much as the ensemble viewers want to hang out with every week.

Fans loved hanging out with DI Humphrey and his love interest Martha when they solved crimes in a place that is a 14-hour flight from home. Of course, they'll love them when they're just a couple of hours south of London. In fact, Beyond Paradise has become so popular that it has yearly Christmas specials, and Season 3 continues that tradition, with multiple new recurring characters returning this season who were introduced in the December 2024 special.

The holiday episode (which is streaming on BritBox for those who missed it) also set up Humphrey and Martha for a new foster placement to move in for Season 3, and the first images from the season include our first look at newcomer Bella Rei Blue Stevenson as Rosie, who arrives in Shipton Abbott as the Goodman-Lloyd household's newest resident.

Here's the Season 3 synopsis:

The team faces a host of baffling cases in the upcoming series, including a body discovered in a river on the county border, a perplexing chocolate box poisoning, a long-standing farming feud, and a spiking incident at sea. Away from the police station, Martha and Humphrey must overcome unexpected hurdles as foster parents, while the reappearance of Martha’s old flame Archie presents an unexpected challenge.

Meanwhile, Esther experiences a surprising twist in her personal life, Anne confronts painful memories following a health scare, and Kelby embarks on a transformative journey of self-discovery.

The mystery-of-the-week format that works so well in Death in Paradise carries over to Shipton Abbott and allows the series to bring in a variety pack of guest stars for every episode. Season 3's visitors include Steve Oram (D.I. Ray) and Gabby Best (There She Goes) as Humphrey and Esther’s Cornish policing counterparts, DI Jacob Tremayne and DS Fenella Foster; whether or not the crossing over to a new area and precinct means these two will become semi-regulars remains to be seen.

Three new local residents will also be introduced this season, and may become part of the recurring ensemble going forward. First up, there's Hugh Dennis (The Couple Next Door) as local councillor Arthur Donelan; in another episode, the show will bring aboard Kevin McNally (Miss Austen) and Caroline Quentin (The Lazarus Project) as farming rivals George Ellis and Lotty Lewes.

Series creators Robert Thorogood and Tony Jordan return for Season 3 as the show's lead writers, Sandy Johnson returning to direct and Lindsay Hughes to produce. Jordan executive produces with Tim Key and Belinda Campbell for Red Planet Pictures, Danielle Scott-Haughton for the BBC, and Stephen Nye and Robert Schildhouse for BritBox International.

Beyond Paradise Season 3 is expected to arrive within a week or two of Death in Paradise Season 14's conclusion on BritBox in the U.S. The series has already concluded in the U.K., here on BritBox the finale streams on Friday, March 21, 2025, so it's a good bet Beyond Paradise will arrive sometime in Mid-April 2025.
