It’s official: Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has his very own wax replica at the world famous Madame Tussauds waxwork gallery in London. Given the fact that the basically everyone is obsessed with Cumberbatch at the moment, it may surprise you to realize that he did not actually have one up to this point, but that cruel oversight has thankfully now been rectified.

The official Cumberbatch waxwork was announced during the summer, with Tussauds’ General Manager Ben Sweet referring to the subject as “one of the most in-demand actors” of the moment. Apparently interest in what has been dubbed the “Cumberwax” has been so high that on the day of its announcement the gallery’s official site crashed under the weight of all the interested, eager fans.

And now, at last, the real thing has arrived.

The new Cumberbatch waxwork features the actor in a navy suit and sporting a rather intense expression, as you can see below:

You can see many more photos of the new figure at the official Madame Tussauds site- he even has his own photo gallery with adoring fans.

According to Tussaud’s, Cumberbatch  was closely involved in the creation process and is hoping to come and visit his likeness very soon. He has, however, seen photographs of the finished figure and is impressed by the results.

“I'm excited to see the finished, perfect, waxy me although slightly terrified,” Cumberbatch said. “The work is so detailed it's going to feel a little uncomfortable and surreal seeing what I really look like!'”

The figure does look terribly lifelike, don’t you think? Though, I have to admit that, personally, I was more of a fan of the expression and hairstyle used in the initial sculpture photos from last summer.  Not sure what it is, but the actual expression on the wax figure’s face is almost too haughty for me, especially when the actor himself seems much more laid back (in real life. I don’t know. It’s incredibly lifelike-looking though, and perhaps it looks less imperious in person?

Regardless, it’s great honor to be featured at Madame Tussaud’s – and it must be ever so cool to know that someone took the time to painstakingly create an exact likeness of yourself.

How painstaking, you might ask? Well, luckily, the gallery has provided a behind-the-scenes video documenting the creation of the Cumberbatch wax figure, and the detail to which the artists go to get the likeness exactly right.  In short: it’s really impressive.

Will you be attempting a photobomb session with Cumberbatch’s wax likeness on your next trip to London? Thoughts on the likeness of the figure? Hit the comments.
