BBC Fantasy Drama ‘Atlantis’ Comes to the US This November, Has Already Been Renewed for Series 2
The series, which is produced by Merlin co-creators Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps, follows the adventures of Jason (Jack Donnelly), a young Greek hero who arrives on the mysterious island of Atlantis. Along with his new friends Hercules (Mark Addy) and Pythagoras (Robert Emms), they battle against some of the most famous names in Greek legend, while Jason searches for the secrets of his destiny. All three main actors will be returning for the second season, along with Jemima Rooper, Aiysha Hart, Sarah Parish, and Juliet Stevenson.
“Atlantis delivers original British drama with the kind of scale and ambition that we've come to expect from the cinema,” said Charlotte Moore, Controller, BBC One. “It feels very much at home on Saturday nights on BBC One, it's been wonderful to watch Howard and the team create a whole new world, brilliantly inspired by Greek mythology which is proving a hit with all the family and a second series is richly deserved."
The airdate and the number of episodes for Series 2 have yet to be determined, but those of us on this side of the pond can expect to get a look at the first season of Atlantis for ourselves shortly. The drama will join BBC America’s Supernatural Saturday programming lineup beginning November 23, immediately following the encore broadcast of Doctor Who 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor.
